RISTRETTO

In this painting, I aimed to camouflage the waiter into the background. He fulfills his role, bringing two ristrettos to the customers, and becomes part of the restaurant itself. The floor pattern reflects his fatigue and the repetitive nature of his actions, while the blue tones help blend him into the scene. The waiter seeks to remain unseen, yet also longs for attention and care. The bright orange sugar draws the viewer’s eye, reminding us how easily we overlook those serving us. The two ristrettos highlight the passage of time—perhaps a fleeting moment—and the shared experience of enjoying coffee with someone. The painting captures both the perspective of the waiter and that of the two people sharing an intimate moment.
